Addiction is a problem that affects not only the individual, but also their family and surroundings, and social workers¡¯ intervention is essential. Addiction intervention competency for social workers has a significant impact on the outcome of addiction interventions, but there is no exists measurement tool to identify addiction intervention competency scale for social workers. This study is the first to develop a reliable and valid scale to measure addiction intervention competency for social workers.
Through factor analysis, a three-factor, 27-item scale was developed, and the three factors were named knowledge, skill, and attitude. The reliability analysis of the developed scale showed that the reliability was very high. The validity of the scale was assessed by convergent validity. Through the scale developed in this study, addiction intervention competency for social workers, which includes substance and behavioral addictions, can be comprehensively identified across three factors: knowledge, skill, and attitude. In addition, it is expected to revitalize research on addiction intervention competency for social workers and accumulate theory.
